2019 Outstanding Woman is posthumous toxicologist Dr. Clorinda Maria-Hernandez

WILLEMSTAD - Toxicologist Dr. Clorinda Maria-Hernandez (Curaçao April 9, 1953 – March 22, 2014), has been recognized last Saturday, as the 14th Outstanding Woman during the 16th Annual Female Leadership Conference in Curaçao.

She was an Analytical Chemical Analyst, Master of Science in Public Health and Doctor of Science in Toxicology.

As a scientist/researcher, she is recognized for the work she did as a professional among all by analyzing the quality of fuel in Curaçao and the effects on the human being and the environment.

Her work, in association with others, led to the introduction of the now common unleaded gasoline in Curaçao.

Her work also resulted in rules for water coolers in schools.

In her Master of Science Thesis in 1987 she established guidelines for the establishing of an analytical toxicology laboratory.

In 1996 she did a Blood Lead Survey in young Children of Curaçao and one year later the same survey in Saba. In 1998 she developed a method for the analysis of lead in canned food.

During her career, the 2019 Outstanding Woman has demonstrated passion and determination in her work; she was a visionary and always had the best interest of her people on her mind. She shared her knowledge in several forums, education processes and interviews.

It is therefore that she as a professional female scientist/researcher, a role model, is recognized as an Outstanding Woman.

The recognition was accepted by her widow dr. Miguel Maria and her brother Geoffrey Hernandez.

The organization of the Annual Female Leadership Conference in Curaçao chooses the annual professional Outstanding Woman from the Caribbean, she must be older than 60 and the professional work she did must benefit others.
