2019 is the year of Ka’i Orgel (cylinder piano)

WILLEMSTAD – Saturday January 12 was a great day for Curaçao culture. 2019 was officially declared as the year of the Ka’i Orgel (Kaha di Orgel) or un English, cylinder piano.

The Ka’i Orgel is an integral part of our culture and development of the local community. It is also an essential part of our nation building. With this in mind, the government of Curaçao has declared this year, the year of the Ka’i Orgel.

The Prime Minister of Curaçao, Eugene Rhuggenaath together with the Minister of Culture, Marilyn Alcala-Walle officially opened the Ka’i Orgel year. After which there were presentation of several dance groups and music from various cylinder pianos.

On that day it became clear that younger generations are also interested in this local instrument. There are even young adults who have learned from the older generation how to make this instrument.

 

Curaçao’s culture is alive and will continue for many more generations.
