According to public health officials in Wuhan, central China , 45 people have been infected with a viral strain of Pneumonia , the virus has spread from its point of origin at a seafood market in Wuhan, two of the patients have died , it is believed that the unofficial number surpasses the 1000 infection , some leading scientists suggests that more than 1,700 people may already have been infected.
Analysis of the genetic code of the new virus shows it is more closely related to SARS than any other human coronavirus, SARS, another respiratory virus which originated in China, killed around 800 people between the years 2002-2003.
It is known that the outbreak is associated with exposures in one seafood market in Wuhan, the market was closed on January the 1st 2020. At this stage, there is no infection among healthcare workers, and no clear evidence of human to human transmission. The Chinese authorities continue their work of intensive surveillance and follow up measures, it is complicated because flu season is here, and flu viruses all look similar at the beginning.
People traveling to the U.S. from Wuhan, China, will be screened for fevers, coughs or difficulty breathing, the screenings are a proactive measure, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection. No cases of the mysterious illness have been detected in the U.S. & More than 100 staffers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are being deployed to three US airports(San Francisco International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport) to check passengers arriving from Wuhan, China, for fever and other symptoms of a mysterious new virus that killed two and infected dozens in China.
