Asjes to New York for the 68th General Assembly of the United Nations
WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister of Curacao, Ivar Asjes will be in New York from the 23rd of September till the 27th. Asjes will attend the 86th General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA). He will be accompanied by the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frans Timmermans.
On Monday the 23rd, Asjes will start with a meeting about people with disabilities. Later that afternoon, he will be present at the unveiling of the winning design from an international competition of the United Nations (UN), in memory of slavery.
On Tuesday Asjes will attend a lecture by U.S. President Barack Obama during the UNGA. The Prime Minister will also participate in a debate on political issues. He has a meeting scheduled with the Secretary General of the UN. Furthermore, he is scheduled to meet with the prime ministers and foreign ministers from the region such as Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Panama and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Asjes will also have breakfast with Gyan Acharya, sub-Secretary General of the UN. Finally the Prime Minister will attend a meeting of CARICOM, trade organization of Caribbean and Latin American countries.
